Workshop: Linked Open Data in Agriculture

Linked Open Data (LOD) combines the technology of globally linked data with the philosophy of free access to information. LOD overcomes the limits which traditional information distribution reaches in view of the increasing amount of data and information. In the agricultural sector, efforts are being made to exploit the potential of this approach, in particular with regard to global food security, site-adapted agriculture and international research collaboration. Facilitated by the German Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture, the Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition Initiative (GODAN), the Association for Technology and Structures in Agriculture, and the Federal Office of Agriculture and Food, this two-day professional workshop will be targeted at an international audience with impulse lectures by experts and discussion sessions. International Workshop on Statistical Classifications for ECLAC countries

The workshop will be organized jointly with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Oficina Nacional de Estadística e Información of Cuba. The workshop will be coordinated with the Working Group on International Classifications (GTCI), operating under the guidance of the Statistical Conference of the Americas. The workshop will review progress made in the regional efforts, which have so far resulted in the development of training modules on classifications, translations of classifications and supporting materials, bilateral training exercises among member countries and linguistic tools to address terminological differences among countries that are difficult to address in classifications documents.
