Open Data Watch (ODW) is thrilled to announce the newest member of our team, Francesca Perucci, an expert in the field of development data and the advancement of global data capacities initiatives. She joins us as Director of Policy and Partnerships. We warmly welcome her aboard and look forward to leveraging her vast experience and insights to lead ODW’s work to scale up data and statistical capacity development, technical services, and partnerships to further strengthen our mission.
Francesca Perucci brings with her the experience of a remarkable career that spans decades of impactful work within the United Nations. She began her journey in gender and social statistics; over the years, she has assumed key positions within the UN system, retiring earlier this year as Assistant Director for the UN Statistics Division. Her commitment to institutionalizing data systems across the world and advancing the utilization of data and statistics to inform development policies, monitoring progress, and influencing decision-making has made her a true trailblazer in the field.
Throughout her career, Francesca has pioneered innovative approaches to producing, analyzing, and communicating data to make data an effective tool for shaping policies and strategies. She led the development of the indicators for the Sustainable Development Goals, which in 2017 became the official framework at the basis of SDG data work around the world. Her visionary leadership has been instrumental in shaping global data initiatives, and her dedication to promoting open data and data integration has left a lasting impact.
At ODW, Francesca will play a pivotal role in leading and shaping our policy and partnership efforts, harnessing her deep understanding of official statistics and national statistical offices to bolster our mission. Having collaborated with her on numerous occasions in the past, we are delighted to officially welcome her to our team. Her expertise will enrich our endeavors and contribute significantly to the advancement of robust data and statistical systems worldwide.
