United Nations Regional Meeting on Disability Measurement and Statistics in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 2020 World Population and Housing Census Programme

The United Nations Statistics Division, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific, is organizing a Regional Meeting on Disability Measurement and Statistics in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 2020 World Population and Housing Census Programme. How can we strengthen CRVS systems as a means to improving gender equality?

Over the past few years, the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) agenda has gained much attention and momentum as witnessed by the establishment of various initiatives such as the Global Financing Facility and the Africa Programme on Accelerated Programme on CRVS (APAI-CRVS), greater investment by countries like Canada and Norway and apparent interest and linkages with the health sector. However, as discussed in a recent seminar held at the Center for Global Development, seeing the importance of CRVS systems through a gender lens has only started, and requires much improvement.
