DESCRIPTION:The meeting of the high-level political forum on sustainable development in 2020 convened under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council\, will be held from Tuesday\, 7 July\, to Thursday\, 16 July 2020\, including the three-day ministerial meeting of the forum from Tuesday\, 14 July\, to Thursday\, 16 July 2020. The theme will be “Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development “. \nIn accordance with paragraph 84 of the 2030 Agenda\, Member States have decided that the HLPF shall carry out regular voluntary reviews (VNR) of the 2030 Agenda which will include developed and developing countries as well as relevant UN entities and other stakeholders. The reviews are state-led\, involving ministerial and other relevant high-level participants\, and provide a platform for partnerships\, including through the participation of major groups and other relevant stakeholders. \nIn 2020\, 50 countries will present their national voluntary reviews to the HLPF. The VNR presentations are planned to begin on Monday\, 13 July 2020 and proceed for the three days of the ministerial segment of HLPF.

SUMMARY:The Impact of COVID-19 on National Statistical Offices: Accelerating Innovation
DESCRIPTION:As with all activities\, data collection by National Statistical Offices (NSO) was disrupted by the quarantine measures undertaken in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The impact was particularly felt in those activities that rely on face-to-face interviews\, such as household surveys and censuses. \nThe abruptness of the quarantine measures meant that changes in data collection efforts had to be done quickly and that new approaches and data sources had to be tried. This seminar will present the experience of NSOs in the use of new data collection methods and data sources to continue with their regular flows of statistics and to satisfy new demands for information.

Representatives of Member States\, UN entities\, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are invited to attend the session. \n  \n\n\n\n\nCSW64 Advisory\nIn light of the current outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19)\, the UN Secretary-General has suggested to the Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) that Member States consider amending the format and conduct of the session. Options could include holding a scaled-down\, shortened session with the participation of New York-based delegations only\, or postponing the session to a later date. Member States will meet on Monday 2 March to discuss the matter and take a final decision. SUMMARY:Second meeting of the Friends of the Chair Group on Economic Statistics
DESCRIPTION:The 50th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission established a Friends of the Chair Group (FOCG) on Economic Statistics. The Commission requested that the Friends of the Chair Group convene meetings over the next year to discuss whether the current planned updates meet the needs of a future state of the system of economic statistics and whether gaps exist. The Commission also asked the Friends of the Chair Group to examine whether the current governance and infrastructure supporting the system of economic statistics is sufficient to meet the need for an increasingly responsive and comprehensive system of economic statistics. The Friends of the Chair Group has been asked to report back at the 51st session of the United Nations Statistical Commission.

The conference is being organized by the African Union Commission in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)\, the African Development Bank (AfDB)\, and Government of Zambia. SUMMARY:Expert Meeting: Supporting the production and measuring the use of official gender statistics Paris France
DESCRIPTION:PARIS21 and UN Women are collaborating on a project within the Making every woman and girl count initiative to strengthen national statistical systems to produce quality gender statistics aligned with national priorities and Agenda 2030. We have developed a framework for the assessment of gender statistics in terms of data gaps and capacity gaps of national statistical systems. The experience of three pilot countries will be shared alongside best practices on mainstreaming the gender perspective in national strategies for development of statistics (NSDS). We are also working on a methodology to measure the use of gender statistics in policy documents\, social media and news. \nThe Experts Meeting will bring together representatives from the media and statistics community to discuss the PARIS21 text analysis study in relation to the use of gender statistics in public policy documents and media.
